The Global South and a World Transformed
The ongoing crisis of the liberal international order is creating both opportunities and challenges for the Global South. What is the “Global South”—a contested term—and how should we view its changing political and cultural significance? How might contrasting historical experiences and national perspectives, both North and South, inform more inclusive conversations about common challenges we face, from AI and climate change to social inequality and war?
From October 15 to 17, 2026, the Georgetown Global Dialogues (GGD) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, are bringing leading writers and thinkers together with university students and a wider public to address these questions.
The convening, hosted by Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta, is the fifth in a series that began in Washington, DC (April 2024), and continued in Rome (June 2025) and Barcelona (November 2025 and March 2026).
