The GGD Experience
October 31, 2025
The Georgetown Global Dialogues bring together writers and public intellectuals for a more inclusive, international conversation about ways forward in a divided world.
GGD was launched in Washington, DC, in April 2024 with a week-long gathering devoted to the theme of “Ways Forward in a Divided World.” In June 2025 GGD brought leading novelists and public intellectuals to Rome to explore the theme of human fraternity, with a focus on the legacy of Pope Francis. The third installment of GGD is taking place in Barcelona in partnership with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona in November 2025. Its theme is “Human Frailty and Global Solidarity.”
Advancing Human Fraternity in a Divided World
Our contemporary world is both highly integrated and deeply divided. Can we expand our moral imaginations beyond our communities and nations to the global level? What ethical and spiritual resources can we draw on to build human fraternity and solidarity in practice?
Engaging the Legacy of Pope Francis
The relationship between literature, spirituality, and society is a rich one in Catholicism and across the world's great religious/wisdom traditions. How can we sustain and deepen that relationship in our own tumultuous era? How does Pope Francis' call to a "culture of encounter" in Fratelli Tutti open up ways forward in a divided world?
A Different Kind of Dialogue
The Georgetown Global Dialogues are a series of linked conversations designed to give participants—and a local and global audience—the opportunity for an open exchange of views on critical global challenges. The priority of dialogue over debate and confrontation builds community in practice.
